About CMU's Pre-College Boal Workshop
AUGUSTO BOAL
One of the world’s leading theatre practitioners, Augusto Boal created of a school of theatre called “Theatre of the Oppressed.” His work concentrates on using theatre in a political context, as a tool for understanding, education, and development. His techniques are also used in therapeutic settings to enhance personal and group development.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
To gather a core group of talented young adults with the objective of empowering them to create Image Theatre pieces to impact social change. Ensemble warm-up strengthens flexibility in imagination, concentration, physical freedom, and group trust.
“The real goal of the arsenal of the THEATRE OF THE OPPRESSED is to contribute to the preparation of the future rather than waiting for it to happen.”
The purpose of Image Theatre is to make change, both in our own country and globally.
